  Percy Parker and Amy Molyneaux

My London Fashion Week kicked off dangerously early on Sun 13th (9:30 AM!) with the too-good-to-stay-in-bed-for duo PPQ, aka Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker. Predictably the show was running a good half hour late, so I collected my bleary-eyed friend Chris, who I had badgered into coming with me the night before and who was still getting to grips with being awake in the AM of a Sunday.  We crawled down the street for a quick but very strong coffee and then headed back to the Royal Academy just as the doors were opening.

PPQ

East London based fashion/music collective PPQ was originally founded back in 1992 and now their label has over sixty stock lists from across the world, they design collections for Topshop and pieces for the 3 Mobile Company. Their record label 1-2-3-4 Records (Percy’s brain child) churns out super cool glam electro-house music. Currently signed acts include Hairy Diamond, Cosmetique, Soulking and their current star Whitey, who is picking up industry ears all over the place.

Lights dimmed, the electro started up and out come the models.  Gold curls, super drainpipe-denims, PPQ’s signature sexy bolier suits, tights and shorts (a classic combination at the shows this year)...racing driver checks, it was Team PPQ.  The shows was a kind of 80’s rock meets dirt track races with a dollop of punk glam and old-school paisley thrown in to set it all off - trendy, innovative and very very cool.

I had a quick word with the designers backstage to see what it was all about. “We wanted to combine sportswear with evening wear, cross and blur the divide between the two styles.” explained the boiler-suited Amy. “We wanted to combine and contrast fabrics and patterns (hence the checks and paisley patterns I guess), we are going cosmic paisley.” And, “We want people in smoking jackets and underpants – just fantastic!” I just couldn’t resist questioning the duo about Amy’s love for the boiler-suit look. Percy answered, “Well, she is a sky-diver after all.” Hmmm?
