I got a message from Baby Chic,
“I bought five paintings! You have to see
this guy’s art.” So New York Cool photographer
Mary Blanco and I went to this absolutely dreamy
hotel (sorry, I could not resist), the Dream Hotel
at 210 West 55th Street At Broadway (www.dreamny.com).

Baby Chic's Loot
It was for the Steve Kauffman
show. That is the Bronx-born Steve Kauffman who
was Andy Warhol’s assistant - the Steve Kauffman
who is the AIDS activist - the Steve Kauffman who
is collected by Spike Lee, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy
Dee Williams, Tina Sinatra, Mickey Mantle, Wolfgang
Puck and of course by my friend, Baby Chic the Magnificent.
Steve Kauffman is a piece a pop art himself. He
has a bit of an Adams family thing going on with
his stylish black zoot suit and massive bling.

As a child, Kauffman wanted to
be a comic book artist. Now his medium is hand painted
silk screens of pop icons and he depicts everyone
from Sinatra to Madonna, with stops along the way
for anything else that hits his fancy from Beethoven
to Van Gogh on to Havana.
The art at the show was all very
reasonably priced – ranging in price from
$175 - $1000. The October show was a benefit for
one of Kauffman’s many charities, Give Kids
a Break. For more information on Kauffman, log onto:
