"I think people ought to know that we're anti-fascist, we're anti-violence, we're anti-racist, and we're pro-creative. We're against ignorance."

The Howl Festival rocked the East Village for eight days this year (running from August 21st through the 28th). It was a riotous event filled with dance, music, performance, poetry & writing (www.howlfestival.com).

On Saturday, August 27th, New York Cool photographers Mary Blanco and Krisztina Fazekas and I hit the park with our fabulous new art intern, Wayne Chang, in tow. We were there to see Art Around The Park, which had been billed as a live-action event featuring over 140 artists from the East Village. Basically, the festival promoters just put up 140 huge pieces of white paper on the fences around Tompkins Square park and anyone who wanted to could register and paint. It is a riot to watch, you can see anything from the most talented artists to whomever (I have been asked to paint).

We were also there to see The Pantheon Processional. Here is a quote from the Howl Website: ”Join Rosario Dawson and march to the beat of the Hungry March Band and the Lower Eastside Girls Club's drum corps, while being led by our "Grand Marshal", the Warhol superstar, Taylor Mead!” See New York Cool’s interview with Taylor Mead (http://www.newyorkcool.com/archives/2005/May/interview_1.html)

Howl blew into town, hitting the streets and making us forget the winter soon to come. So until next year – let’s Howl!

Rock on!

Wendy

**There is a fabulous street art portrait of Strummer on the SE corner of 7th and A.
