Putting the Broad Back in Broadway

Clams Casino

A taste of Honi can be quite a delight. And the Honi in question is none other than Honi Harlow, a burlesque dancer who produces a show every second Saturday at the Vital Theater in Manhattan. New York Cool photographer Linus Gelber and I attended on March 11,2006 and it was a night of Moulin Rouge, French bread, wine, and beautiful women shimmying across the stage. Honi was our fearless host with help from her sassy sidekick, Bella DeBalls.

Honi Harlow and the Harletts

France was the setting and here is the story. A mother wanted to marry off her favorite daughter Juju to an eligible country boy, Johnny Kat. The problem was that Juju was a smoking, drinking pregnant feminist who did not believe in marriage. Could there be a happy ending for Johnny Kat and the fair Juju?

Loretta Love and Judith Baicih (Ju Ju)

The show was packed with storyline twists, sexy moves and diva madness. A unique element of the show was that dancer, Loretta Love, interpreted the show in sign language. Love signed lyrics to songs throughout the show as well ad during her own dance routine. Love was literally a last minute addition to the cast, but she did not miss a step or a beat. In her own act, she got inside of a blown-up balloon and did a dance routine until the bubble popped.

Some of the other dancers in the show were Jo Boobs, Lukki, and GiGi Le Femme:

Jo Boobs

Jo Boobs took the stage with one of her classic burlesque routines. Her petite body shining with glitter, she teased the audience with white feather fans. This lady is a class act.

Lukki dazzled the audience with her flashy green dress. While she was hot, her number “Laziest Girl in the World’ showed us her lazy side. Her shtick was that she could have had any man she wanted, but she would rather be a sloth on a couch.

Gigi La Femme

GiGi La Femme was costumed in a dazzling turquoise and black outfit, complete with garters and stockings. She gave Beyonce a run for her money when she shook her rump. La Femme knows how to drop it like it’s hot.

Drag King Johnny Kat

Finally there a magic moment between JuJu and Johnny Kat which led into a hilarious sex scene performed to “Love is a Battlefield” by Pat Benetar. Let’s just say that if you are a fan of S&M, this scene would have knocked your socks off.

One of the hottest routines of the evening was a number performed by Honi to the tune “Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol. Honi dropped the red dress she was wearing so that she could saunter around in tight dominatrix wear.

If you are looking for some late night fun on a Saturday night, get a taste of Honi. Her next show is Through the Mirror and into Fun-derland, with Scotty Bunny as MC.; it will run April 8th and May 13th at 11pm at the Vital Theater. For more information: www.honiharlow.com.
