Feeling the Steam at the Melting Pot

  Partygoer Flips Out

The Melting Pot, described by the fabulous, renowned DJ Kervyn Mark as “an arts collective” had a birthday bash this Saturday night. This Capricorn and Aquarian celebration was an amazing auditory, visual, and highly charged experience. The show’s surprise guests were brothers Chris (age 14) and Steve (age 17) Martinez. Beats beats beats … dance dance dance …hot hot hot!!! The groove that these talented DJs / percussionists produced formed the center of a lively loose, fun and artistic energy that pulsated throughout the entire night.

236 E. 3rd Street between Avenues B and C was the venue; the invite referred
to this dance hall and quaint bar as “The Place.” My splendid dance partner
described the music as “soulful house.” This name, soulful house, is quite on
point to describe the spinning genius of The Martinez Brothers and DJ Kervyn.
Extraordinarily! Every minute of this underground dance party was intense, a
truly ripe slice of time. House music touches and frees the soul. It tantalizes.
Watching the fluid motion, expression and auras of people on the dance floor
added to the greatness of the experience. This was my first Melting Pot event
and I’m craving more.

After Chris and DJ Steve finished their session, birthday boy Kervyn took
to the turntables. Several attendees had come specifically to see this
gifted and super nice DJ. His beats were very satisfying. He did not
disappoint.

Later, music group Diamond Temple took the stage, and their chill, rhythmic
sounds enabled the crowd to have a breather after all that groovin’ from
Kervyn and the Martinez Brothers.

Towards the end of the night, Bret "Dancer" Mantyk, who was visiting
New York from Detroit and wearing mime face paint, techno danced
before an enthralled crowd.

Part of the Melting Pot’s mission is “To enlighten, inspire and move
people through the exploration of art, culture and life through music.” This Saturday night’s gathering certainly lived up to that. These folks really know how to throw a great party and musical experience.
