Dear Miss Wendy,
I was reading MSNBC (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13512249/)
and it seem that a seventy-nine-year-old woman has
just been sentenced to life plus five years (come
on now!) for shooting her eighty-five-year-old boyfriend.
She suspected he was cheating on her. How could
such a thing occur?
Sincerely,
Apalled
Dear Pally,
One simple word: Viagra. I blame Viagra for such
unseemly conduct among our elderly. In years past,
our perpetrator might have suspected that her “friend”
was using his social security check to purchase
pansies for the lady down the hall. But surely this
provocation would not have been enough to drive
her into a murderous rage. But now her boyfriend
is able to “reinforce his desires” with
the help of a bottle of little blue pills (or worse
yet, has a Cialis induced four-hour walking stick)
and Shakespearean dramas are being reenacted in
the corridors of nursing homes. They really must
revise the warning labels on those bottles.
Dear Miss Wendy,
I just saw the New York City
Gay rights parade. What would you say was this year’s
prevailing theme?
Sincerely,
Out from out-of-town
Dear Out,
It was feathers, as in the words of Emily Dickinson,
“Hope is the thing with feathers.”
