For the last 35 years, New Directors/New
Films have been showcasing the absolute best on
film by newbie auteurs-in-the-making. Presented
by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and The Department
of Film and Media at The Museum of Modern Art, ND/NF
have “discovered” many key figures of
World Cinema including Pedro Almodovar, Hector Babenco,
John Sayles, Atom Egoyan., Richard Linklater, Wim
Wenders and, yes, even Steven Spielberg.
Last year, the festival premiered
Phil Morrison’s remarkable Junebug,
which went on to garner an Academy Award nomination
for the amazing Amy Adams.
This year’s exciting lineup
of films is already generating quite the buzz. Among
them are: Ryan Fleck’s Half Nelson
starring Ryan Gosling as a drug-addicted NYC teacher
and coach (USA); Sarah Watt’s Look Both
Ways starring Justine Clarke who is currently
onstage opposite Cate Blanchett in Hedda Gabler
at BAM (Australia) and Michael Cuesta’s (LIE)
already controversial Twelve and Holding
(USA) just to name a few.
Always fascinating and attention-worthy,
ND/NF’s presents challenging and audacious
features by up-and-coming directors who are the
future of cinema.
