On February 2, 2006 the Plug Awards took over Webster Hall in New York City and proudly proclaimed themselves as “The Nickelodeon kid’s award show for hipsters.” Dressed appropriately in a sweat shirt, old T, and Puma shoes, stand-up comic Aziz Ansari delivered the awards with a sarcastic tongue and old school ease.
Album of the Year was ‘Illinois’ by Sufjan Stevens. Bright Eyes snagged Artist of the Year honors. Brooklyn’s own Clap Your Hands Say Yeah picked up the accolade of New Artist of the Year while Sub Pop received Record Label of the Year.

Beans w/Holy Fuck
The night started out with an upbeat, melodic mix thanks to Beans w/Holy Fuck. One of the most impressive acts was Celebration. They brought a fierce live energy that seemed to shock the audience as the lead singer jumped off the stage and dived into the stoked fans.

Cage and El-P

Chad Vaangalen
Mr Lif and Akrobatik
It was a night of great music and comedy. Every live performance carried the Plug vibe; they all sent electricity pulsing through the crowd.
