b. Michael is celebrating. After uncorking his Spring 2007 line at New York Fashion Week he went straight to the after-party at PM Lounge, let himself into a VIP booth, and settled in to chill. There’s a bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne on his table, and a host of well-wishers at his side.

Neil Lowe, CEO of b. Michael couture, Author Crystal McCrary Anthony and b. Michael

Michael is elegant. He accepts compliments with modesty, and wears a smile that is seemingly peaceful despite the din that surrounds him. “I think I got my point across,” he says. “I wanted to produce a well-made American collection, and that’s what I did.”

Pat Skantze And Two Dapper Gentlemen

His models agree. Near-by, still wearing their b. originals, they have shed their stilted stances and couture attitude to join the party. Nelly Furtado belts out, “…promiscuous boy, you already know that I’m all yours…” The models get up and dance, still graceful as they bump booties.

Patrick Ewing, a New York sweetheart enters to a litany of flashes. Even the models, six-feet plus in their stilettos, appear small next to him. Needless to say he’s easy to spot, especially for the crowd of Nicks fans that immediately encircle him. After some courtesy hand-shakes he makes his way to Michael’s quarter, where he meets the designer for the first time.

Waitresses in black minis serve trays of teeny-tiny hors d' Oeuvres, salmon sandwiches, puff pastries, and quiche, to guests attempting to balance tulip toasting glasses as they savor the tasty delights. The room is littered with industry types-- stylists, designers, fashion editors, unwinding after a long day of runway action.

No one is more relaxed than Michael. He made his “point” and everyone enjoyed the show.
