At the top of the
runway against a pure white backdrop a round golden
emblem read “House of Anand Jon”. And
in this “house” on September 9, 2006
onlookers got a taste of the designer’s Spring
2007 collection—casual and classic, mixed
with a touch of spice. It was the Indian-born designer’s
sixth year at New York’s Fashion Week following
his graduation from Parsons Design School in 1998.

Drawing from his
Eastern roots Jon paired sexy sequined sari blouses
with his signature skinny jeans. Slinky knee-length
blouses and long beaded skirts added an exotic punch
to naughty little shorts and crisp white shirts.
Frisky male models took to the catwalk wearing nothing
but AJ Jeans, six-packs a-flex. A crisp Nehru jacket
detailed with tiny rhinestones – to add some
bling – formed the highlight of the male collection.

As the show revealed, Jon’s
previous focus on evening wear appears to be shifting
to the jean. Floor-length contoured jackets, pleated
minis, patterns and details all display the breadth
of his creativity using America’s favorite
fabric, without sacrificing the elegance that is
his trademark.
But he did not forget his loyal
clients of the cocktail party. Shimmering two-toned
silks, gold satins, and hot-pink halters strutted
down the runway, proving that Jon has left his score
intact.
