On Friday, September
1st, fashion's most glamorous (and socially responsible)
braved torrential rain and bracing winds to come
together at the Garden of Ono for the Fashion for
Peace show. A fundraiser held by the Business Council
for Peace, the fashion show and trunk sale featured
the work of three up-and-coming designers, and proceeds
benefited Bpeace, an organization working to support
women-run sustainable businesses in areas of global
conflict.
Lush foliage and shantung-draped
cabanas made the Garden of Ono a luxurious setting
for an outdoor fashion event in any weather. During
the show itself, champagne-sipping guests huddled
under umbrellas to watch scantily-clothed models
dodge puddles in dangerously high stilettos. The
girls came out draped in everything from stunning
silk charmeuse to spandex swimwear, but the most
original runway concept was showing an entire men’s
collection on delicate models wearing nothing but
flirtatiously opened shirts and jewels to match.
Before and after the show, designers were on hand
to discuss their collections with partygoers. Tullee
Vintage Couture and Millinery (www.tullee.com
and info@tullee.com),
designed by Pamela Boudreaux, featured re-imagined
vintage dresses and hats that were updated for a
new generation of society ladies. Natasha Ulyanov
presented a collection of luxury swim and resortwear,
as well as a separate presentation of sumptuous
crystal-encrusted eveningwear. The label to watch
is definitely Bogosse, a sexy men's shirt brand
favored by celebrities from Usher to Ryan Seacrest,
and designed by former soccer star Patrick Tardieu
and his brother, Fabrice. Their Spring '07 collection
was filled with bespoke details combined with unexpected
colors that screamed of refinement and fun.
