Like a skilled sorcerer,
designer Marc Bouwer has harnessed the power of
air and light, translating both into his Spring
2007 collection. A native of South Africa, and former
assistant to Halston, Bouwer has proven a love for
the female form and the female herself. Flowing
fabrics, bold color, and dramatic design embodied
the spirit of the runway at his fashion week unveiling
on September 8th in Bryant Park.
Doused in an air of romanticism,
statuesque models walked the runway with red lips,
soft wavy locks and luminescent skin draped in sensuous
gowns that moved freely with the lines of their
silhouettes. From the slinky black and white mini
to the floor-length hot pink dress, each piece told
its own story.
While the line’s focus is
largely evening wear, keeping with the spirit of
Spring, Bouwer did not miss the chance to introduce
a sleek swimwear option, adding his own flare to
the regular one-piece. Smooth angled cut-outs provided
a taste of tanned tummies and kissable collar-bones.
