Gorgeous materials
and intricate beadwork are ordinarily reserved for
eveningwear, but there was nothing ordinary about
Reem Acra’s Spring ’07 collection. The
title of the show was “Then + Now,”
but perhaps “Gilded” would be more appropriate.
In a season that the designer has described as “all
about fusion,” she layered her favorite daywear
pieces together and glazed them with fine finishes,
chunky goldwork and opulent jewels.

cra must have traded a few notes
with Ralph Lauren for spring, as both designers
featured silver lame look-alike separates to add
class and attitude to an outfit. Acra’s color
story continued in a metallic vein, with bronze,
moonstone, mauve and a variety of taupes gracing
the runway. Bright red continues to reign as the
chosen pop color for spring- a Peter-Pan collared
coat made entirely of rouge ribbons and a pleated
red chiffon gown served as collection standouts
for Reem Acra. As for silhouettes, the look was
soft, yet somewhat boxy, and waistlines ranged from
dropped to natural to empire, varying incredibly
from look to look.
FIT-trained Reem Acra has established
herself in the designer bridal business for a decade,
dressing stars like Christina Applegate and Melissa
Joan Hart for their eddings. Her Spring ’07
collection proved her talent for unexpectedly elegant
daywear looks, so look forward to more fun dressing
for the office with Reem Acra.
