I have contributted
to Save Darfur; I feel like I have to do something.
So I received this email from SaveDarfur.org
about a demonstration they were having on Saturday,
March 10, 2007 to highlight how China is enabling
Darfur in its genocide.
Here is a quote from
the email. "It's time to ramp up the pressure
on China and demand that they stop supporting the
genocidal government in Sudan. To help shine the
spotlight on the role of the Chinese government
in perpetuating the violence, Darfur activists will
unite in New York to form a human chain between
the Chinese and the Sudanese Missions to the United
Nations.
The chain will represent
the link between the Chinese and Sudanese governments.
The economic linkages between these two nations
help to support the Sudanese government and have
hampered the ability of the United Nations to end
the genocide."
The rally kicked
off at 1PM at the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza (across
from the Sudanese Mission to the UN on 47th St.
between 1st and 2nd Avenue) and then the demonstrators
formed the human chain between the embassies. The
rally ended up at St. VArtan's Park (in front of
the Chiness Mission on 35th beween 1st and 2nd).
For more information
on the chain, you can visit www.chain2china.org.
