It was a gorgeous December morning
at Manhattan’s Puck building and the fashion
chattering class was out-of-bed and dressed-to-the-nines
to see the sometimes Cowboy-hat-wearing, anti-fur-crusading,
Project-Runway-winning Jay McCarroll’s
designs for McDonalds. Yes, that’s right –
McDonalds of the yellow arches and Super Size
Me (they have made a commitment to totally
remove trans fats).

But some how it fit: Jay has a
professed desire to make fashion accessible to everyone
and he describes his style as techno-Bohemian (www.jaymccarroll.com).
And the show and designs were all for a very good
cause, Ronald McDonald Houses, a charity that supplies
a home-away-from-home for families whose children
are in the hospital with serious illnesses.
And it worked. Jay designed several
outfits that mixed perfectly with vintage looking
McDonald’s tee shirts, including a fun gold
trench coat. And then Kelis entered the runway (Heather
at MAO PR had been teasing us all week about a celebrity
model) with a Project Runway style make-it-work
dress made entirely of McDonald’s holiday
gift cards. It was hysterical and fun just like
Jay, Project Runway, Kelis and (I guess)
now McDonalds.
