A friend told me about The Creator
Series and it sounded like something not to be missed.
I entered the Chelsea’s Altman Building and
quickly found myself scratching a Daft Punk record
with my feet. Through some kind of interactive projection
of an enlarged record on the gallery’s concrete
floor, I was able to play DJ by running, stopping
and reversing direction. Okay, that was fun. Next,
I examined photos of graffiti alongside graffiti
body armor - well, a uniform and plexiglass mask
and industrial paint tools set in a glass case.
I viewed paintings and video cameras streaming gallery
footage and then snuck into another room where a
French film was showing. The film juxtaposed a series
of science experiments with a live feed from the
gallery. I’d never seen anything like it -
which is, I suppose, the point.

A traveling multi-media
DIY collective, The Creators Series presented works
by artists in the form of live presentations, films,
paintings, sculptures and discussion panels. Incorporated
as “a multidisciplinary salon-style conference”
with corporate sponsors and impressive opening receptions
on both coasts, The Creators Series succeeded in
redefining the presentation of art while integrating
the public into the creative process. For more information
