Just the words Ritz-Carlton
conjures up an image of refined elegance and Miami's
Ritz-Carlton, South Beach is certainly no exception.
Built in the fifties by famed MIMO (Miami Modern)
architect Morris Lapidus, the hotel has undergone
several subsequent renovations, but has always preserved
Lapidus' whimsical flights of fancy. The hotel is
simply stunning, with Lapidus' curved walls and
mezzanines displaying the Ritz's spectacular art
collection.
The hotel is a destination
for the rich and famous from around the world and
this includes many of Hollywood's hot young things.
Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson had both been
guests the week before we were at the hotel on May
22, 2007. The Ritz has also hosted (and hosts) stars
like: Tobey Maguire; Tony Braxton; Vivica A. Fox;
Jimmy Falon; Ty Pennington; Michael Jordan; and
Daisy Fuentes.
The hotel excels
with its personal services, ranging from the La
Maison de Beaute Carita Spa (which features four
Prada treatments) to a hot-looking tanning butler
who patrols the sun bathing area with his supply
of sunblock, ever ready prepared to doctor the Ritz's
sun worshipper's hard-to-reach bits and pieces.
And there are the
restaurants: the DiLido Beach Club "the only
oceanfront restaurant on South Beach"; the
Americana (with both in and outside seating); the
cool Lapidus Lounge; all the way to the stunning
elegance of David Bouley's Evolution.
The Ritz-Carlton:
