Give it Up for the Big Girls

New York Fashion Week would not be complete without an event for the plus/real size divas of the city. Lee Lee’s Valise hosted its first (and hopefully annual) “NY Plus Size Fashion Week” a two-day event held on September 19th & 20th, 2007. Customers came out to meet and greet some of the plus size industry’s most prominent designers, as well as review their Spring 2008 collections. Oh, by the way, “Cheetah Girls” author, Deborah Gregory was spotted amongst the voluptuous consumers in the crowd. With champagne glasses in hand, customers were given the opportunity to peruse, try on and preorder items from the appetizing collections of Anna Scholz, Jessica Svoboda, Darren Trentacosta and Tadashi. From wrap dresses that display wavy curves to wide, leg high-waisted denim and these avant-garde designers came ready to prove a point. We heard it loud and clear; you don’t have to be a size 2 to bring sexy back, sexy is hanging from the hangers in a size 22 on Court Street and President in Brooklyn.

Lee Lee’s Valise, with its motto “We Have Your Size” opened its doors in May 2007 and New York’s plus-size fashionistas have been knocking the doors down ever since! Housing sizes 12 to 28, this boutique has no room for a size 0 or 2! Owner Lisa Dolan is taking her customers out of their comfort zones, throwing pencil skirts over their curves and letting them know that they’re gorgeous and without a doubt fabulous.
