Daniel Silver and
Steven Brown of Duckie Brown once again proved that
menswear does not need to be mired down in predictable
lines. The spring 2008 collection included classic
favorites that were reinterpreted with new twists.
This experimentation created sleek silhouettes with
a sense of fun and imagination. The bright yellow
trench, lengthened shorts, beanie hats, and bright
punches of color lit up the runway with a preppy-gone-playful
sensibility.
The duo even juxtaposed
gold lamé against more traditional slim cut
pants with wide legs. This subversiveness played
out well and was positioned against perfect proportions.
There was a Seventies feel throughout much of the
line, especially the collars.
The return of the
three piece suit and dropped crotches showed an
emphasis on construction and a deep understanding
of creating dramatic statements. The flowered prints
were bold, and these pieces showcased a youthful
vibe.
Expert tailoring
and color-me-clever garments created a cohesive
collection. The prepster pieces kept the clothing
looking clean while bursts of shine achieved that
signature Duckie Brown style.
