On
Tuesday night, FORM kicked off New York Fashion
Week at the Soho Grand, a hip downtown hotel that
functioned as a fashion lounge. Guests mingled in
The Yard and The Gallery and were treated to twenty-eight
looks set against a photo exhibition by Eric Madigan
Heck and a video installation courtesy of Richard
Reens.
Fashion guru Jerry Tam impressed
the haute monde yet again with an ambitious collection
for Spring 2008. FORM’s iconic structure was
repeated in the circular shapes of the dresses which
closely mimicked the beautiful contours of a woman’s
body. The lines were a bit softer this season, and
all of the fabric draped in endlessly perfect silhouettes.
The soft color palette was particularly
flattering, as pops of chartreuse green are introduced
throughout the collection. Shiny, sculpturesque
shoes served as statement pieces that punched up
the clothing while adding an irresistible touch
of glam. A new interpretation was given to the classic
black cocktail dress, and the pieces were utterly
stunning. The silk, satin geometry worked in unison
with chiffon layering, empire waists, and cleverly
placed straps to create linear frames.
FORM definitely made a strong
impression on the fashion-forward crowd that lingered
over the collection for hours. The atmosphere, art,
clothing, and music all worked in harmony to create
an elegant evening of iconic style.
