After previous collection
titles such as “Mod”, “Grand Dame”,
and “Femme”, Loris Diran has emerged
this Spring 2008 with “Illumination”.
In Diran’s words, he states that “after
spending a great deal of time searching for ways
to stay understated, I felt the strongest desire
to celebrate light and shine in a collection that
I feel still retains its wearability and remains
relevant.” These words truly encompass what
this collection brings to the runway; the “wearability”
is certainly intact. The pieces are elegant but
not unrealistic. Diran’s spring line showcases
loose fits that are ultra-glam; Diran designs for
women who want to embrace their femininity and sex
appeal in a classy manner that tailors to their
bodies.
Diran’s “Illumination” is reminiscent
of a summer night. The more abundant colors of gold
and navy give a whimsical sense of the last days
of summer with twinkling gold fireflies and stars
etched into the dark navy nights; the silk and chiffon
elicit a warm summer breeze. The styles hugged the
bodies of the models but swayed as well, his designs
were multi-dimensional and engaging.
Diran’s style has evolved through past collections,
where the designs originally began somewhat minimalist,
has now become intricate-couture that is still wearable.
The support and following of Diran is undeniable,
with celebrities such as J. Alexander and Nolé
Marin from America’s Next Top Model. Support
was also in the form of non-fashion celebrities,
such as James Garfunkel. The event was sponsored
by Elle magazine, hair was done by the internationally
acclaimed Christo of Christo Fifth Avenue, shoes
by Carlos by Carlos Santana and make up by Max Factor.
