Marc Bouwer’s
Spring 2008 collection “Le Voyage Vert”
is explained as “the juxtaposition of geometric
edges and flowing organicism.” Turquoise,
moss, and coral colors immediately reminded me of
the oceans in Tahiti or Fiji, filled with colorful
fish and coral reefs. The collection showcased gowns,
dresses and swimwear in a kaleidoscope of color,
from a blue sea anemone print bandeau gown to an
anaconda print bandeau strapped swimsuit. Aside
from the vibrant colors of red, apple, chartreuse,
green saffron, purple, and geometric prints, the
palette also included black, white and copper. The
collection was very detailed with beading, sequins
and delicate draping in chiffon, satin, crepe, organza
and jersey fabrics. Studded dotted-disc details
and feathery tattering is also seen in some of the
pieces. There was an endless array of dress and
gown styles available - strapless, halter, tank,
Grecian, shift, empire and bandeau. The collection
didn’t just represent the ocean but other
aspects of nature, including plants and trees. Key
looks include a white draped bamboo halter cape-let
dress, azure mosaic bustier trapeze dress, red and
white scribble v-neck with draped waist, copper
paisley push-up gown, Adriatic stone beaded asymmetrical
gown, chartreuse silk jersey bikini top gown and
satin and chiffon goddess gown with shredded cape-let.
Bouwer’s spring collection is dazzling and
flashy, suitable for many galas and red-carpet functions
that I’m sure we’ll be seeing in the
near future.
