The invitation said:
"The Gabarron Foundation is pleased to present
the Spanish
Fashion exhibition: Roberto Verino- 25 Years of
Fashion. The retrospective
Exhibition was established in September 2007, to
celebrate the 25th anniversary
of the brand’s creation by featuring the designer’s
signature pieces from each
season throughout Verino’s fashion career.
“25 Years of Fashion” opened in
Madrid´s Costume Museum, MUSEO DEL TRAJE,
continued to travel around Spain
and will now be presented in New York at The Gabarron
Foundation Carriage
House Center for the Arts with a special cocktail
reception on March 4, 2008 at
6:30 pm. The reception honoring Roberto Verino will
be hosted by The
Ambassador of Spain, Carlos Westendorp and Theodore
W. Kheel,
Chairman of the Gabarron Foundation. "
Spain had come to America with
some gorgeous clothes. Mannequins were displayed
throughout the Foundation, modeling the Verino collection.
Of particular note were the Friday Kahlo inspired
garments. Many of the garments were walking pieces
of art, embellished with silk painting. The over
all feel was ultra modern with deconstructed trench
coats, sculptured purses and thigh-high boots. Beautiful,
dramatic and stylish - it was Robert Verino.
Also of note were the guests.
Spaniards are simply beautiful (including Olatz
Schnabel who attended the party). If I am ever reincarnated,
I certainly hope it will be as a glamorous Spaniard.
