The Presidents of the United State of America have
released their latest album and first in four years.
It is entitled: These Are the Good Times People.
They kicked off their tour a couple weeks ago in
Portland and this past week the bus pulled through
NYC for a sold out show at the LES’ beloved
Bowery Ballroom.

The Presidents’ sound hasn’t strayed
much from the blueprint that brought them so much
success in the mid to late 90s. It was the same,
familiar, “catchy, humorous and self-deprecating”
style that we know and still love. The band cleverly
alternated the play-list between songs off their
new album and their past favorites as they frequently
reminded the audience of their past/present play-list
alternating method. Most notable off the new album
is “Mixed-Up Son of a Bitch” which is
already a hit with Presidents loyalists, as is “Ladybug”
and “Truckstop Butterfly.” But it was
when they jammed the classics that the crowd roared.
I stood next to a Brazilian fan for the majority
of the show who had obviously been to his share
of shows at the Bowery Ballroom. During a brief
lull between songs he shouted the comment to me,
“You always know it’s a good concert
here when you feel like we’re all going to
fall through the floor.” And it was when the
Presidents jammed “Peaches” and “Lump”
that I thought we, indeed, would end up in the basement
bar area. The crowd also rallied for the hit songs
“Kitty” and “Dune Buggy”
as well as cover songs “Kick Out the Jams”
and “Video Killed the Radio Star.” It
is safe to say that the Presidents of the United
States of America and their upbeat sound will always
be welcome in New York City.
