The line for the
July 22nd fashion fete at Isabel Toledo’s
penthouse literally stretched around the block.
Fashionistas were literally melting into the sidewalk,
but the crowd was all smiles upon entering the
magnificent soiree on the 28th floor.
Hosts Valerie Steele,
director of the Museum at the Fashion Institute
of Technology (FIT), and Glenda Bailey, editor
in chief of Harper’s Bazaar, toasted Toledo
as the Couture Council’s recipient of the
2008 Award for Artistry of Fashion.
Fashionably attired
partygoers posed for photos while enjoying Toledo
Mojitos. Narciso Rodriguez, Cynthia Rowley, Maria
Cornejo, and Vera Wang were spotted chatting with
Isabel’s husband, Ruben Toledo. He graciously
handed out fans that were adorned with the likeness
of his wife. The guests were equally enchanted
with Ruben’s designs which decorated the
expansive space.
This party comes
as a precursor to the exhibition of Isabel Toledo’s
masterpieces which is scheduled to open at the
Museum at FIT in June 2009 entitled, Holy Toledo!
Isabel Toledo and the Art of Fashion. The retrospective
explores Toledo’s creative musings and more
than seventy-five inspirational looks.
