French artist Alain Godon's exhibit
of contemporary New York streetscape art opened
December 4, 2008 at the Galerie Elysees on Central
Park South. Godon's paintings are pop art expressions
of life in New York by an artist who has obviously
never lost his ability to look at the world with
childlike wonder. The art depicts the cartoonish
distorted world of Batman as painted by an artist
who obviously has no need for antidepressants. Cheerful
and fun, the paintings show a New York that many
of us long to see.
According to the press release
from Alyson Campbell of AMP3 Public Relations, "Godon,
who got his start painting chalk art outside of
The Louvre in his teenage years (and was recently
offered to exhibit there) paints life and society
in New York City through playful child-like eyes.
Having shown in major art capitals around the world
including Moscow, Bali and his native Paris - his
pieces are known to sell before the paint is even
dry. Godon has many avid collectors and followers
around the world, and the chartered flight full
of fans who arrived especially from France for the
opening night was proof of this. If you look closely,
you’ll see that Godon sneaks caricatures of
his wife, his dogs and himself into most of his
works."
The gallery was filled with the
young and the glittery. According to the press release:
"Among the crowd were: Adrien Field - Lifestyle
Editor of My It Things, former The
Apprentice runner up Kwame Jackson, Bob Bland
- founder & designer of Brooklyn Royalty, Georg
Szalai - Business Editor of The Hollywood Reporter,
Timi Lewis of NYC TV, Dynellle Skinner of My
Life on and off The Guestlist, Wendy Williams
[not so young and glittery] - the Editor in Chief
of New York
Cool, Thei Zervaki of Fully Booked,
Lois Sakany & Audrey Walen of High Snobette,
Artist Ruddy Adames, Lela Luxe of LelaLuxe.com
and Chuin-Kai Shih of GQ & Vogue Taiwan."
The Galerie Elysees is owned by
the French gallery company, The Galeries Bartoux.
In addition to the New York City outpost, there
are ten location in France and one in Naples, Florida.
The Alain Godon’s exhibit runs through January
4, 2008.
