Mixing patterns,
colors, and textures possibly better than any other
designer, Anna Sui once again proved why she is
queen of the catwalk. Her clothes had a wearable,
vintage-esque vibe, but they were also clearly rooted
in rock-and-roll with a whimsical sensibility. Sui’s
ability to seamlessly mix different points of view
is astounding. Nothing looked as though it was overly
styled, but the amount of work put into pairing
fringe with bright hues to achieve memorable looks
is impressive.
Heart print tights, statement-making
chunky shoes, and several Pocahontas inspired numbers
worked in harmony, portraying looks that harkened
back to Gustav Klimt. Directionally, this bold show
covered a lot of ground, but Sui tied it all together.
The bird motif was interspersed throughout different
looks, and the show seemed to speak to high art.
This was clearly the designer’s vision of
frenzied fashion amped up in a playful drama.
