Velvet curtains flanked
the midtown Hudson Theatre where Douglas Hannant
unveiled his fall 2008 collection. Tim Gunn had
a ringside seat for this line that defied the ordinary
and truly took the fashion world to new heights.
Hannant once again proved why socialistas are literally
clamoring to get their hands on his newest creations.
Violins piped in the background
as the clothing hit the runway. The line was fresh,
provocative and focused on shapes. Slim cuts were
punched up with structured skirting. The dresses
had a sculptural feel that was enhanced with feathers
and lace. The ladylike cashmere coats were truly
elegant and worked to enhance asymmetrical cuts
and body-conscious suiting. Organza, ruffles, silk,
and satin were utilized throughout the collection
which sparkled while playing with necklines. At
the denouement, the show seemed to create a mirror
image of itself. The models stood on opposite sides
of the stage and looked like counterpoints of each
other. It was a European sensibility with an uptown
undercurrent.
Douglas Hannant truly understands
his customer. He knows women, luxury, and ultimately,
Hannant knows how to put forth a memorable collection.
