The Fall 2008 Form
show was held in the brand new, ultra modern New
Museum, which has risen in all its contemporary
magnificence in the New York City neighborhood known
as The Bowery.
The show, scheduled for 10AM,
got off to a late and somewhat disorganized start
with invited-and-rsvp'd-guests not on the guest
list and photographers given passes to stand in
the audience section rather than being directed
to the photographer’s riser. But once we entered
the New Museum's Sky Lounge, we quickly saw the
cause of all the giddiness and confusion; Form had
been starstruck by the Reality TV Prom God. The
Form Fashion Show had been selected (along with
R
Scott French for the male contestants) to showcase
the talents of the female contestants of Bravo TV's
reality show, Make Me a Super Model. And
right there front and center were the shows stars,
Tyson Beckford and Niki Taylor. Handbag designer
and girl-about-town Genevieve Jones was also present,
sitting on the front row in a smart belted white
trench coat. But of course; all was explained.
Now for the clothes; they
were quite lovely. The line shown was an expansion/
continuation of Form's signature deconstructed softly
draped dresses with dresses, suits and coats fluidly
constructed from rich natural fabrics. The colors
were from a neutral palate of blacks and grays with
touches of purple. Many of the garments featured
shroudy hooded tops. Hand muffs were another fashionable
touch. Over all the garments had a very modern feel
that was perfectly suited for what must be the first
fashion show at the New Museum.
