Joanna Mastroianni’s
Fall 2008 collection was inspired by Moroccan traditions;
the line reflected her fascination with Moorish
architecture. With this collection, Mastroianni
has moved away from her Russian roots and into the
grillwork and inlaid tiles of a mysteriously sexy
culture.
Distinct patterns with a
high-shine wattage were paired with storybook capes.
They created a dreamy quality on the runway. The
color palette of lapis, black, and a show-stopping
red were dramatic, yet wearable. The line was embedded
with ornate beading and embellished with embroidery.
Plunging necklines and exquisite tailoring showed
Mastroianni’s gift for design. Nothing looked
rushed, and every piece reflected the Middle Eastern
sensibility.
