The
Naeem Khan 2008 fall runway show embraced luxury
with a zeal for everything glamorous. Few other
fashion week designers showed truly gorgeous gowns
complete with metallic fabrics and embellishments.
Fall 2008 seemed more focused on ready-to-wear lines,
and it was inspiring to watch Khan’s departure
from the conventional frocks of most Bryant Park
shows.
The twenty-six looks embodied
the jet set lifestyle with long, lean sweeping gowns
and backless python numbers. The clothing had movement
and every garment was absolutely stunning. This
line was not as esoteric as the Parisian collections,
but it definitely brought back a sense of nostalgia
with a nod to old school Hollywood.
The attention to detail was exquisite
with marbled paillettes, crystals, feathers, and
embossed leopard prints. The mix of high shine,
sparkle, and onyx with sophisticated animal prints
ushered in a return to decadence on the catwalk.
Khan proved that even in the midst of bad economy,
there still is a need for extravagant couture. Show
goers Nina Garcia and Eva Longoria nodded in approval
as they undoubtedly found the collection to be red
carpet worthy.
