The R. Scott French
2008 Fall runway show entitled Connections
focused on luxury, details, and unique materials.
French set the tone for the show by proclaiming
that style is not price point, instead it is a mindset.
Directionally, this mantra was reflected in his
clothing that was pulled from the Richard Harris
Felt by R. Scott French, the LTD, and the R. Scott
French lines. French opted to push men’s fashion
forward by pairing tuxedo elements with tweed, placket
shirts, pinstripes, and hammered satin. High-tech
fabrics were mixed with more traditional materials,
and the subversiveness of pairing titanium with
printed florals created visual interest.
The black sprayed lamb asymmetrical
bomber jacket, gray ombre melton bomber jacket,
and black brocade toggle closure jacket pulled layered
looks together. Nothing looked overdone, and the
focus on outerwear showed the designer’s growth
in terms of embracing the different lines as a true
lifestyle brand. The three collections worked harmoniously
to create real standout pieces that were anchored
by the outerwear. French remarked, “Outerwear
is one of the most crucial elements of style. The
one universal element of everyone I notice on the
streets is that they are perfectly outfitted in
terms of outerwear – no matter what the season.”
