Inspired by Fritz
Lang’s 1927 silent film, Metropolis,
Rubin Singer presented his Fall 2008 collection
with a dark, sophisticated sensibility. There was
a pronounced city vibe reflected in all of the looks
that was further perpetuated by exacting haircuts
and bold lipstick. Stylistically, the model’s
dark bobs placed the emphasis on the clothing and
Singer’s vision of a city run by robots. Ultimately,
the final look, entitled the Heart Machine, reflected
a young woman who, despite being captured by robots,
fueled the cityscape via compassion and love.
Singer explained that his
collection was designed for, “strong and powerful
women.” Indeed, his provocative looks were
edgy, but they still maintained a graceful sense
of romance and mystery. He further explained, “I
have been so inspired by Lang’s film, and
I wanted to portray my interpretation of the modern
day heart machine on the runway. This line taps
into the essence of my customer. She is confident
and empowered, and my clothing is for her heart
machine.”
