Tadashi Shoji demonstrated
once again why he is the master of the long, sweeping
gown. He began the show with knits that highlighted
the unstoppable fall trend of high waists. This
continued throughout his collection, as many of
the pieces had a knotted bodice that emphasized
fit. Shoji paid close attention to volume control
by balancing all of his dresses with Grecian inspired
draping or high knotted waists. All of the shapes
were particularly flattering to a woman’s
body, no matter the body type.
As the collection progressed,
silk and matelasse were introduced as upscale fabrics
to complement the glam-worthy gowns. Interjections
of jade, scarlet, and pure ivory made bold statements
and further illuminated that Shoji is all about
decadence. Overall, the line was rich in approachable
beauty and enchantment.
