Actress Michelle Trachtenberg hosted the launch party for Gen Art’s 10th Anniversary Styles Runway International Design Competition at Sunglass Hut in Soho on May 13th. This show debuts emerging designers, and has helped launch the careers of Peter Som, Rodarte, Sari Gueron, Cloak and Project Runway winner Jay McCarroll.

Trachtenberg, best known for her role as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has recently played bad girl Georgina Sparks, on the hit show Gossip Girl. I was able to catch a few minutes with the newest Gossip Girl actress to ask her about the show and talk some fashion.

Q: How do you like playing Georgina on Gossip Girl?

Michelle Trachtenberg: I love it! It’s fun being the bad girl.

Q: What are your favorite designers that you get to wear on the show?

Michelle Trachtenberg: Ya Ya, Helmut Lang, Diane von Furstenberg, Chloe, Marc Jacobs and Catherine Malandrino.

Q: Do you have a say in what you wear on the show?

Michelle Trachtenberg: Yes, I have a say in what I wear. I’m able to bring my own personal style into it, so Georgina’s style is an extended version of me.

Q: Will Georgina’s character be on Gossip Girl next season?

Michelle Trachtenberg: That’s up to the powers that be!

After speaking with Trachtenberg, I stuck around for a bit to see her shop for her favorite sunglass styles – big, dark classic square frames and aviators. Some of her favorite sunglass designers include Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Gucci.

Adding to her interest in fashion, Trachtenberg also designs her own jewelry line, “Bella Veritas”, available at Fred Segal and currently out of stock online at www.shopatmilk.com. Jewelry making had actually started out as a hobby for her. Each piece of Trachtenberg’s jewelry is handmade by her, and created with semiprecious stones such as amethyst and peridots. Her collection includes charm bracelets and double strand necklaces.

We look forward to seeing more of Trachtenberg through her future roles, fashionable moments and jewelry creations!
