Fresh from the garden of luxurious
comfort, the recent Supima store opening at 72 Greene
Street set new standards in casual style. This clothes
encounter brought a chic sensibility along with
some pretty swanky party-goers to downtown Manhattan.
Decked out in whisper thin white, the pop-up store
had a bit of a Miami feel that was further reflected
in the décor as well as the clothing (the
guests had been instructed to Dress White). Designers
Sharon Segal, Gilded Age, Wamsutta, Three Dots,
Oligo Tissew, and AG Adriano Goldschmied amped up
the volume of the most basic threads with organic
tee shirts, shadow stripes, and super cozy lounge
wear.

Some of the most buzzed about
brands participated in this event that utilized
the world’s most dependable cotton. Grown
only in the United States, supima cotton is 45%
stronger than conventional cotton. This feather
weight fabric absorbs color at an extremely high
rate and is often referenced as the “cashmere
of cotton”. During the ginning process, the
pima plant is literally plucked from the fiber,
and it is this delicate extraction that preserves
the integrity of the fabric.
The designs were modern, minimal,
and oh-so-soft. And this emphasis on life’s
little luxuries seemed to resonate with attendees
who reveled in the kissed with cotton theme of the
evening. Cocktails flowed as the Supima pop-up store
reminded us that with a little effort, even the
most casual moments are opportunities for making
a fashion statement.
