The Hispanic
Society of American hosted a festive gala at the
Rainbow Room to honor NYU Professor Jonathan Brown
and José Luis Olivas, the President of
Bancaja, the largest bank in Spain. Both honorees
were lauded for their support and advancement
of Spanish art and culture.
The Hispanic Society supports one of Manhattan’s
hidden treasures, the incredibe Hispanic Society
Museum and Library located at 155-156 Streets
and Broadway in upper Manhattan. The library is
an old world treasure, housed in two main buildings.
The southernmost building displays the antiquities
and the northernmost building houses a stunning
collection of contemporary Spanish art. There
is an old cobbled stone plaza between the buildings
that evokes a different century. Visiting the
museum is a trip to a different world and something
no true art lover should miss. hispanicsociety.org/hispanic/museum.htm
On the night of October 2, 2008, over three hundred
guests attended the black tie event at the Rainbow
Room, dancing to the Bob Hardwick Sound. It was
a beautiful night, a celebration of Spanish art
by Manhattan's elegant Spaniards.
