Amy Smilovic creates
ensembles for a woman who wants to make a statement
and her Spring/Summer 2009 collection for Tibi cemented
her niche as a contemporary designer who is not
afraid of bold moves. Smilovic made her impact on
the fashion world by working with prints that command
attention and for Spring/Summer 2009, she drew her
inspiration from Asia and the US Eighties. These
opposing themes came together to create a tour de
force of color and texture that is uniquely Tibi
and more importantly, never boring.
Brightly hued dresses in
rich shades of jade and red were exquisitely draped
in ultra feminine shapes that still exuded power.
Exaggerated shoulders and bouffant sleeves showed
Smilovic’s ability to create balance by juxtaposing
strong tops with well-proportioned bottoms. The
independent spirit of the line was reflected in
harem pants, obi belted waists, mandarin collars,
and balloon-inspired shirts.
