On July 9, we checked out River Rocks first Pier
54 show of the summer. The line up consisted of
Team Robespierre, Flosstradamus, and Matt and Kim.
I thought it was a good location for live music.
However, I was a fool for not bringing any cash.
All those beers looked damned tasty and no ATM in
sight.

Team Robespierre
delivered an excellent set of old school hardcore
mixed with simple synths and sing alongs, and it
was delivered with a sense of playfulness that it
warmed my old cold heart. They even did a Youth
Brigade cover. Who covers Youth Brigade? Awesome.

Flosstradaumus
Then we had to listen to Flosstradamus. How in
the hell did these guys convince themselves onto
the stage? A two-man DJ team, they will be available
for weddings and bar mitzvahs as soon as they realize
that’s the extent of their talent. I even
asked myself at one point during their set when
the electric slide was going to start. Their selections
were not very interesting, and I saw nothing worth
noting. But what do I know, the crowd almost brought
down the barricades, and even the security guards
were dancing.

Matt and Kim came out to close the show. And by
now the pier was packed close to capacity. It seemed
like they were a bit overwhelmed and surprised with
their reception. Hell, it was almost like a homecoming
coronation. I’m not sure where these two found
each other, but it’s an excellent mix. Their
presence on stage is great, and they transmit an
infectious exuberance that quickly contagions the
crowd. There’s a lot you can do with just
a drums and synths, and Matt and Kim explore the
hell out of that combo. And who doesn’t love
Kim’s constant smile?
