Project Runway
winner Christian Siriano created his first solo
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week show after what must
have been a séance with Dali in the world
of Dada. The models were utterly striking with their
Goldilocks bangs and white lipstick, but most of
the clothing that walked with runway was more costumey
art installation than wearable fashion. Siriano
designed a line of clothing for fall of 2009 that
is filled with whims and folly (the hats, my dear).
But then, interspersed
between the walking theater pieces, were some lovely
simple brown silk dresses. These beautifully draped
cocktail dresses would be just the thing for Victoria
Beckham (a big Siriano fan) to wear on the runways
of her life. And there was even a beautifully tailored
brown double breasted coat that seemingly walked
in from the show next door as it would crush the
voluminous sleeves and skirts of most of the line.
But it will be cold next fall, and a girl has to
wear something.
Bravo to Siriano for producing a fun, artsy show.
P. S. The shoes that walked the runway will soon
be available at Payless.
