Fashion Designer Betsey Johnson and IMG Director Fern Mallis

On a beautiful night in May on the rooftop of the Lord & Taylor store on Fifth Avenue, Parsons The New School for Design presented the first AAS Icon Award to FernMallis, Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion. Ms. Mallis' award was presented by sesigner (and also a fashion icon) Betsey Johnson. According to the press release, "the award recognizes Ms. Mallis' groundbreaking achievements in the fashion industry, among them creating and organizing what is now known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, her work with various charities including "Fashion Targets Breast Cancer" and "7th on Sale", and her undying support of emerging fashion designers."

Designer Jen Kao, a Parson alumni, was awarded the Stacy Nipps Alumni Award and Sarah Creagh was awarded the CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski Elements Award, which included a $2,500 prize. The assembled group was then treated to forty designs from the AAS Fashion Studies graduating class. These looks that were showcased were selected by a jury of industry professionals.
