Pop Icon Michael
Jackson died of an apparent cardiac arrest on
June 25, 2009.
Jackson had performed many times at Harlem's Apollo
Theater, starting when he was a child with the
Jackson Five. The Apollo Theater honored their
fallen son
on June 30, 2009 with a press conference starting
at 2PM. Afterwards, according to the press release,
"the Apollo ...[welcomed] visitors, 600 at
a time, to enter the Theater to pay their respects,
hear Michael Jackson’s music, and see video
tributes to the late pop star. DJs will be spinning
Michael Jackson tunes to accompany a 30-minute
video tribute to the star. Fans ...[had] the opportunity
to leave flowers and memorabilia, their Michael
Jackson memories, and write condolence messages
to the family on a special tribute wall that [was]
located just outside the Theater. The tribute
event [occurred] in cycles of approximately 45
minutes throughout the day beginning at 2:15p.m.,
with the
final entry occurring at 8:30p.m."

New York Cool photographer Angelo Rivera was on
hand and he took these photos of the fans standing
in the rain to pay homage to their prince of pop.
