Once again the Amelia
Earhart aesthetic has taken off on the fashion runway,
and this is the flight PORTS 1961 has boarded packed
with leather aviator caps, frizzed out hair, and
a dark color palette consisting of grays, browns,
and blacks. Most enjoyable about this collection
were the highly structured pieces that created shapes
that moved away from the body, creating a new silhouette
while keeping with the classic shapes used by PORTS
1961. Volume was also a major design element in
these pieces as seen in the rounded shoulders, billowed
sleeves and dresses made of leather and high shine
luxury fabrics. A strong point in this collection
aside from the shapes were the close attention to
details through advanced seam work and overlapping
textures created by combining leather, silk, and
chunky knits. Next winter is clearly about taking
flight towards the future.
