The Couture Council of the Fashion
Institute Technology famously launches Fall Fashion
Week with their Artistry in Fashion Award Luncheon.
Each year the award is given to a fashion giant
such as
Valentino (2011); Karl
Lagerfeld (2010); Dries
Van Noten (2009), Isabel
Toledo (2008), Alber
Ebaz (2007) and Ralph Rucci (2006).

On November 17, 2011, the Council
hosted an early evening cocktail party to honor
their new members, fashion professionals and longtime
fashion patrons. The party was held at the opulent
Club Room of the Soho Grand Hotel, a venue lit
to make everyone look amazing. The hosts for the
evening were Michelle Harper, Yaz Hernandez, Liz
Peek, the Board of Directors of the Couture Council
and Dr. Valerie Steele, Director of the Museum
at FIT.

The room was swarming with a bevy
of fashionistas. The budding star at the party
was Havana-born designer Fabiola Arias. Arias
wore one of her designs which she created with
a base of sheer silk embellished with hundreds
of multi-colored silk flowers. It was simply amazing.
Partygoers Jieun Wax and
Jean Shafiroff were also dressed in charming
Arias designs. Remember the name - Fabiola Arias.

But Arias wasn't the only fashion
star in attendance. Designers Gemma Khan, Carlos
Campos and Ranaldo Santana were also present and
as always, sharply attired. Greeting and mingling
were fashions stylist PJ Pasqual, DJ Anita Sarko,
multi-talented artist Ike Ude, fashion-blogger
Tia Walker, author and artist Beatrix Ost, fashion
stylist Rosemary Ponzo and fashion lovers Sarah
Wolfe, Alexandra Lebenthal, Gabriel Barazza Rivera,
Christine Cachot, Chin Ti Jansen, Daniella Wong
and more charming partygoers than the mind could
absorb.
Looking around the room, it was
hard to know where to focus an eye. The Club Room
itself is beautiful and everyone who attended
the party arrived with the intention of adding
to the evening's festivities simply by walking
into the room. Diana Vreeland famously said, "You
gotta have style. It helps you get up in the morning.
It's a way of life. Without it you're nobody."
