Zang Toi’s Haute Roman Holiday
Zang Toi's collection for Fall/Winter 2018 was inspired by the elegance of the city of Rome, where on every corner there is something extraordinary to amaze even the most jaded visitor. After his visit, he pulled out his sketch pad and created a collection of exquisite suits and ball gowns that tell a tale of beauty and desire and lot of money. When the models walked the runway in Toi's creations, the spirit of Valentino and the elegance of Audrey Hepburn walked with them.
The show began with a group of tailored but feminine gray and black suits that gave off a vibe of wealth and opulence as did the handful of suits Toi designed for men. With a turn of a kaleidoscope and a burst of color, there were palazzo pants, tunics, coats and sweater dresses, all created from a selection of the finest wools, cashmeres and furs. Toi was into flowers this year and used them to great effect in prints, embroidery, headdresses and embellishments on ball gowns.
The evening gowns were created in bright shades of red and orange. Zang said that he included a red gown in his collection as a tribute to Valentino who always showed at least one red gown each season. The pieces-ed-resistances were two black silk strapless gowns – one with a full back skirt and the other with a see-through skirt of silk illusion. Both show stoppers were splashed with bouquets of assorted red silk flowers.
The models made their final turn down the runway to “That’s Amore.”
When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you'll sing "vita bella"
